Visit the JFI

The James Franck Institute is located on the west side of the University of Chicago campus in the Gordon Center for Integrative Science at 929 E 57th St, Chicago, IL 60637.

By Car

The JFI is easy to reach via Lake Shore Drive or the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94). Detailed driving directions are online. There are no public parking lots on campus, but there are paid parking structures close by at 55th & Ellis and 57th & Cottage Grove. Street parking is available but challenging to find during normal business hours. Taxis and ridesharing services are plentiful.

By Public Transportation

By CTA:

From the downtown loop, take the Red Line to the Garfield station. Take the #55 Garfield bus eastbound toward the Museum of Science and Industry to 55th and Ellis. You will be on the north edge of campus. Walk 6 minutes south on Ellis, then turn right onto 57th Street.

By Metra:

Take the Metra Electric District commuter train at Millennium Station (Randolph Street), the Van Buren Street station, or the Museum Campus/11th Street station. Get off at the 55th-56th-57th Street station. Walk one block south to 57th street, then walk 17 minutes west.

From O'Hare Airport

By Taxi or Rideshare:

Travel time from O’Hare to campus varies greatly depending on the time of day. Travel time is typically about 40 minutes outside of rush hour. Taxi fare from O’Hare is $40 to $70.

By CTA:

Take the Blue Line train to the Jackson station. Then transfer to the #6 Jackson Park Express bus southbound to 57th and Stony Island. Walk 16 minutes west to 57th Street. During rush hour, you may also take the #2 Hyde Park Express bus southbound to 60th and Ellis. Walk north on Ellis for 8 minutes, then turn left onto 57th Street.

From Midway Airport

By Taxi or Rideshare:

Travel time is roughly 20 minutes. Taxi fare is $20 to $35. Be sure to instruct the driver to take 55th Street, not Route 55.

By CTA:

Proceed to the CTA Orange Line station and take the #55 Garfield bus eastbound toward the Museum of Science and Industry to 55th and Ellis. You will be on the north edge of campus. Walk 6 minutes south on Ellis, then turn right onto 57th Street.
