Agnish Kumar Behera

Murugan group

Background

Agnish joined JFI as a postdoctoral fellow in March 2024 in the lab of Prof. Arvind Murugan. He obtained his B.S. from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru in 2019 with a major in chemistry and minors in physics and biology. As an undergrad, he worked in the lab of Prof. Suryanarayana Ramasesha, on singlet fission in organic chains using tools from density-matrix renormalization group. As a grad student in the Chemistry department at the University of Chicago, he worked with Prof. Suri Vaikuntanathan on the statistical mechanics of various out-of-equilibrium phenomena with a focus on associative memory models and generative diffusion models. As a postdoc in the Murugan lab, he wants to explore how reinforcement learning could be used to build models for protein structure prediction for short amino acid sequences.
