Background
Caishan Yan joined the James Frank Institute in Dec 2024 as a postdoc in Margaret Gardel's lab. He earned his PhD in June 2022 under mentorship by Prof. Penger Tong in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, studying the microscopic mechanisms of triple-phase contact line and solid friction. He then worked as a postdoc in the same lab for two years to study contact line friction on soft solid surfaces. Now at the University of Chicago, he is studying protein condensates in living cells.
