Background

Debasmita Mondal joined Prof. Margaret Gardel's group at JFI in 2024 as a Yen Postdoctoral Fellow, following a brief postdoc position at ENS de Lyon, France, where she worked on synthetic active colloids and microfluidic devices. She earned her PhD in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, under the supervision of Prof. Prerna Sharma, with her thesis centered on the biomechanics of micro-swimmer/cell motion and active ciliary oscillations. Her research interests are focused on uncovering the biophysical principles that regulate dynamics in active and living systems. Currently, in the Gardel Lab, she is exploring the mechanobiology of actomyosin networks within the cytoskeleton at the sub-cellular level.
