Vitelli group

Background
Mattia joined the JFI in 2024 as a postdoc in the lab of Prof Vitelli, shortly after completing his Ph.D. in Physics at Sapienza University in Rome, Italy. During his Ph.D., Mattia used statistical physics and one of its most fruitful tools, the renormalization group, to study collective behaviors in active matter. His research helped to understand and explain the intriguing dynamic collective behavior of swarms of midges.
Currently, Mattia's research interests mainly focus on understanding how non-reciprocal systems, which break the action-reaction principle, behave in strongly correlated environments.
