Background
Nils Strand joined the JFI in October 2023 as a Postdoctoral Scholar working jointly with Prof. Aaron Dinner in the Chemistry department and Prof. Yuehaw Khoo in the Statistics department. He earned his PhD in Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Todd Gingrich at Northwestern University. His thesis dealt with the development and use of discrete numerical methodologies to understand nonequilibrium steady-state and reactive properties in many-body classical stochastic systems. In Nils's current research, he hopes to extend such methodologies to biomolecular and other complex systems with many more degrees of freedom and understand how these methodologies interact with AI-based tools such as neural networks.
